EYE MOVEMENT dESENSITISATION rEPROCESSING (emdr)
What is EMDR?
Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a specialist therapeutic approach that helps people of all ages to recover from traumatic and distressing events. The approach reduces emotional distress through helping the brain to ‘process’ difficult memories, and move them into the long-term memory.
EMDR is associated with treating Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), but can also work effectively for other mental issues such as anxiety and depression.
EMDR is recommended by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence, the World Health Organisation, The International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies and the NHS (in the UK). For more information please see the EMDR Association website
How could EMDR help me?
If you experience overwhelming anxiety/panic, persistent low mood, strong waves of emotion, intrusive thoughts or memories, nightmares and issues with sleeping then EMDR may be able to help your system safely move through these responses and ‘process’ the experiences stored in your mind-body.
What is the process?
We will meet for consultation and assessment, discuss your therapeutic goals and then consider an EMDR treatment plan.
I can include creative methods and art materials if this would be useful and a useful resource for you.
Testimonials
“I've had EMDR with other therapists before, but nothing has felt as well held, clearly structured and powerful and the sessions I had with Bea. Despite the intensity of this work, she was always with me in the room and took great care to ground me before and afterwards. I felt very safe with her and I would recommend her as a therapist in a heartbeat to anyone looking for EMDR.” - Sally
“Since working with Bea, my anxiety in specific work situations has diminished. With her support, I feel able to bring more of myself into work and I feel generally more at ease. Bea is a wonderful therapist, I recommend her often to friends and colleagues. She is grounded, calm and intuitive.” - Fred
